The recently published photograph of John Pemberton's purported research notebook has prompted a new interest in formulating and qualitatively testing Merchandise 7X by beverage enthusiasts.  Inspired by these efforts, we sought to recreate and quantitatively analyze the famous formulation from natural products to establish a spectroscopic fingerprint by FTIR, which can be compared to fingerprints of authentic samples.  Herein we report on the progress and future efforts of this project.
