High strength wax-like polymerizable dental material is necessary to make a strong molding that can be used to make dentures.  DENTSPLY has developed a patent for strong molding but now wishes to improve certain characteristics.  In this project we are collaborating with DENTSPLY to make this stronger molding.  The objective of this project is to first repeat the synthesis of several polymers.  We have begun this endeavor by repeating a few of the processes originally carried out by DENTSPLY.  Initial spectroscopic results indicate that indeed the synthesis of these high strength wax-like polymerizable materials has been successful.  Future investigation involves modification of the monomer side chains in an effort to improve strength and other desired characteristics of the molding based on requirements by DENTSPLY.
