Marine natural products offer promise in the search for novel chemotherapies.  In this study, potential treatments for tuberculosis are being sought through the investigation of an extract of a marine bacterial strain (UA 446C) that showed promise at small-scale growth in a fluorescence-based screening assay against Mycobacterium marinum.  Novel approaches to the culture of the organism and fractionation steps, including solid-phase extraction, C-18 flash chromatography, and normal phase HPLC, will be presented.  Spectroscopic strategies for identification of the active compounds will also be discussed.
