Extended aromatic molecules are of great interest in the field of organic electronics, with applications for use in organic photovoltaics. However, as aromatic core size increases, there is usually a decrease in the solubility of the molecule, limiting its processing utility. Presented here is the synthesis and characterization of a soluble, extended aromatic derivative, functionalized with a highly branched, solubilizing side chain for incorporation into dye-sensitized solar cells.
