Described in the figure is the design and synthesis of alkene functionalized naphthalene derivatives for use in donor-acceptor liquid crystals. These self-assembled materials have interesting potential for use as 1-D charge carriers in a variety of molecular electronics applications. The goal of this work is to cross-link the assembled columns via olefin metathesis, polymerize and lock them into place to achieve better thermal stability of the stacked material.
