A very useful approach to fluorinated molecules is to use a fluorine containing building blocks. These allow preparation of a variety of important consumer goods including pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. We have prepared some bromine and silicon substituted fluorinated building blocks by reaction of alkoxides, such as sodium phenoxide and potassium tert-butoxide, with fluorinated alkenes followed by subsequent modifications. Our target molecules include the structures shown below. We report on our progress, the physical and spectral properties, and synthetic uses for these compounds.
