By reacting 1,2,3,4-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)cyclopentadiene and 1,2,4-tris (pentafluorophenyl)cyclopentadiene with fluorous and non-fluorous alcohols of differing chain length, novel, fully substituted, tetra- and tri-substituted ethers and fluoroethers were produced. The alcohols used were 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol, 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropanol, 2-methoxyethanol, 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol, and methanol. Yields ranged from 5% to 40%. All products were purified using silica gel flash chromatography and characterized by 19F and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
