The reaction between subphthaloyanine (SubPc) and ferrocene carboxylic acid (FcCO2H) or ferrocene methanol (FcCH2OH) results in the formation of ferrocene carboxylate substituted and ferrocenylmethoxo substituted subphthalocyanines, respectively. All compounds were characterized using set of spectroscopic methods such as: NMR (1D and 2D), UV-vis, MCD, fluorescence, as well as X-ray crystallography. Electronic structure and excitation energies were studied using PCM/DFT and PCM/TD-DFT approaches.  In addition, redox properties of synthesized compounds were investigated by electrochemical (CV, DPV, SWV) and spectroelectrochemical methods. X-ray crystallography data confirmed the axial binding of the ferrocene carboxylic acid and the ferrocene methanol to boron atom of the subphthalocyanine system. Introduction of the ferrocene substituents results in quenching of emission of the subphthaocyanine systems.
