In studying the reduction of carbon dioxide using M(bpy)(CO)3Cl (M=Re, Mn) as a catalyst precursor, we have isolated and characterized several catalytically relevant intermediates as well as degradation products.   Synthesis, properties, and reactivity of these complexes will be presented.
