Incorporation of azaallyl anions in chelate ligands can lead to C-C bond formation and ligand redox activity.  A key feature is the HOMO of the azaallyl fragment, which is a non-bonding orbital that possesses both ionic and 'singlet diradical' character.  Exploration of first row transition metal complexes containing azaallyl or derivative components and/or precursors will be presented.
