Array of heterostructured ZnO nanowires has been fabricated on the substrates using a low temperature solution reaction method. High density, uniform ZnO nanowires were vertically grown on the substrate and these nanowires were modified by deposition of CdSe and CdS nanoparticles through chemical bath deposition (CBD) and successive ion layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR). These CdSe/CdS quantum dot sensitized ZnO nanowires showed highly efficient light absorption in visible light region. One of important applications of the heterostructured ZnO nanowires is photoanode of photoelectrochemical (PEC) generation of hydrogen. Our results indicate that the synthesized ZnO heteronanowires are promising photoanode materials for PEC applications.
