Resonance light scattering (RLS) is a sensitive method for detecting select chromophores in molecular assemblies.  Laser-induced RSL at 532 nm has been carried out on solutions containing copper (II)-curcumin complex with a goal of establishing a limit of detection for curcumin and assessing the linearity of the measured scattering intensity over a broad range of complex concentrations.  In the presence of excess copper (II), curcumin can be detected at concentrations as low as 10 ng ml-1.  Deviations from linearity are rationalized in terms of possible equilibria involving 1:1 and 1:2 copper-curcumin complexes.
