Combinations of metal salts and simple ligands have been tested as catalysts for reduction of olefin and ketone moieties contained in representative non-food biomass-derived substrates.  These reductions proceed at room temperature, can be performed under air, and tolerate the presence of water or alcohols.  Effects of ligand and solvent on catalytic selectivity and rate will be discussed.
