The strong ion-like Lewis acids [Et2Al][CH6B11I6] and [EtZn(?3-C6H6)][CHB11Cl11] catalyze the reduction of carbon dioxide with hydrosilanes under mild conditions. Depending on the reaction conditions such as choice of solvent, silanes and reaction temperature the products vary. Methane, toluene and diphenylmethane were obtained in benzene solution. Mechanistic insights, the structure of intermediates and optimization procedures will be discussed.
