Inorganic and organic nitrogen levels are controlled by numerous enzymatic pathways in biological systems. Most prevalent are the redox reactions with complexed iron. This work investigated the redox cascade of iron (IV) corroles in the presence of nitrones and the characterization of the nitrosyl products. The mechanism of NO release is a Fenton type reaction. The varying rates of nitrone decomposition are shown to depend upon the initial iron oxidation state and the instability of the organo-nitrosyl intermediate..
