Nanostructured strontium titanate (SrTiO3) particles were obtained at elevated temperatures and normal pressure by a  hydroxide-composite-mediated method using bulk titanium dioxide (TiO2) and various strontium salts as precursor materials. The resulting  uncapped strontium titanate nanostructures were characterized by various  techniques, including X-ray diffractometry (XRD), transmission electron  microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The  influence of several reaction parameters, such as the nature of the  strontium precursor, reaction time, and reaction temperature on the  morphology of the resulting strontium titanate particles were investigated. The XRD data showed that, in most of the cases, the  as-prepared nanopowders are single phase SrTiO3 with cubic perovskite structure. However, the preliminary Raman  measurements performed on both the as-prepared and annealed (600�C)  samples showed peaks which indicate the existence of  local tetragonal  symmetry in the ligand-free SrTiO3 nanostructures produced by this method.
