The Student Organization of the American Chemical Society at the University of Little Rock at Arkansas has become an integral part of our Chemistry program, serving as a student-run link between the department and the students.  The focus of the organization for this year has centered around recruitment and community service, in coordination with the university-driven Central Little Rock Promise Neighborhood. Recruitment for the summer research opportunities provided by such programs as Arkansas INBRE, UAMS SURF, and the National Center for Toxicology Research began in earnest at the beginning of the fall semester, well ahead of application deadlines.  Continuing a tradition, our chapter offers over 24 hours per week of free tutoring, with help from our graduate assistants, to our undergraduate students in all chemistry courses. Our monthly meetings are social events, centering around a speaker that brings chemistry experience in the service of public and private endeavors, exposing our attendees to the myriad doors that open with a chemistry degree.  We work to leverage technology in our efforts to broaden our audience among the UALR student base, using Internet resources like Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter to recruit students, spread the wonder of chemistry, and share the presentations from our meetings. In addition, quality Internet resources to help our students with troublesome topics during their self-directed studies have augmented our tutoring efforts to good reviews.
