The American Chemical Society Student Chapter at South Texas College, (STC), celebrated the International Year of Chemistry 2011 throughout the year. Our IYC celebrations were successful due to the dedication of each member, the advisors and the generous contributions made by the ACS IYC Student Chapter Grant and Dr. David Brown's project iLASER, (investigations with Light and Sustainable Energy Resources). The main objective for our IYC celebrations was to promote chemistry by traveling to different schools throughout South Texas, the Rio Grande Valley region, under the name of the Traveling Chemists. Scientific demonstrations were performed in subjects ranging from chemistry to physics in order to spark interest in students enrolled in kindergarten through the 12th grade. We had 3 hands -on events for over 200 students per school. In addition to this, we helped Dr. David Brown from Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA with Project iLASER, and conducted hands-on activities with over 500 students in two days. This poster will illustrate all of the fun and successful IYC events of the ACS Student Chapter at South Texas College.
