On March 05, 2011, the UMHB ACS Student Chapter held its third annual Women in Science Extravaganza (W.I.S.E.). Local Girl Scouts were given the opportunity to enjoy an afternoon full of hands-on chemistry, biology, math, and yoga activities. Junior, Cadette and Senior Scouts earned an Interest Project Patch by conducting explorations of inorganic and organic chemistry, molecular biology, anatomic biology, and Nerf-gun physics. Attendees also had the opportunity to have discussions with a female undergraduate student panel and a female professor of chemistry. This event has been so successful that it has been planned to occur every spring.
