Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (P25) have been modified via combination of Thiol-ene chemistry and Catalytic Chain Transfer Polymerization (CCTP). The surface of TiO2 was decorated with poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (POEGMEMA) with various molecular weight by grafting to technique. The surface of the TiO2 (hydroxide) was first modified to have thiol groups by addition of (3-mercaptopropyl) trimethoxy silane which then followed by Thiol-ene Michael addition chemistry with POEGMEMA which has vinylic end group. The attachment of POEGMEMA to the TiO2 has been analyzed via ATR-IR, XPS, and TGA. The modification of TiO2 by biocompatible polymer in this study has shown to stabilize the TiO2  nanoparticles in water and biological media with particle aggregate size of around 300 nm. The implication of the stabilization (either the surface chemistry or the size) on the toxicology effect on human lung cells (H1299) has also been investigated.
