Our goal is to synthesize high-nuclearity, transition-metal nitride complexes.  Nitride containing molecules with divalent, paramagnetic, transition-metal ions are uncommon in the literature.  These complexes are of interest for their potential to behave as single molecule magnets.  Strong magnetic exchange coupling is expected across the nitride anion.  In the course of our research, we have discovered two divalent, transition-metal nitride adducts, [Cl3Mn�N(SnMe3)3]1- and [Cl3Co�N(SnMe3)3]1-.  The unique physical properties of these adducts will be presented as well as their reactivity towards the formation of higher-nuclearity molecules.
