Abstract The oxidative desulphurization  of a model fuel containing a mixture of requisite amount of benzothiophene and isooctane with 30% aqueous H2O2 was studied. Three different titanium silicate (TS) zeolites such as laboratory synthesized mesoporous TS-1, synthesized mesoporous titanium beta and commercial TS-1 catalyst used in three sets of reactions show the conversions 85.6, 45.74 and 25.31% respectively. The laboratory synthesised and commercial titanium catalysts were characterised. Mesoporous TS-1 was selected as the best catalyst among the three for oxidation of benzothiophene. Reaction time, temperature, catalyst loading, and molar ratio of H2O2: S were chosen as the pertinent parameters to observe their effects on the reaction. An empirical kinetic model was used to fit the rate data. The activation energy was found to be 25.20 kJ/mole.
