Viscose is a cellulose based material that can be used for production of textile fibers and thus replace fibers made from coal, oil or cotton. Due to a decreasing supply of fossil oil and major environmental problems associated with coal and cotton the interest for viscose fibers have increased significantly during the last few years. However, to be able to produce viscose fibers as environmentally friendly as possible it is necessary to have high pulp reactivity. The reactivity can be determined in different ways and after different steps in the preparation process and this can therefore lead to different results. For viscose preparation often used methods are Fock�s test, the filtration resistance and the gamma number. The paper will discuss and compare these analysis methods and propose the best option in different cases.  By using a pretreatment for example with enzymes or chemicals the pulp reactivity can increase substantially.
