A Kronos Educational Photolysis Spectrophotometer is being used to perform photochemistry and kinetics experiments for educational laboratory purposes.  The goal of the project is to generate modified procedures for future undergraduate Physical Chemistry Laboratory classes that demonstrate the study of kinetics.  The experiments introduce the student to photochemical principles, first, second, and pseudo-order reactions, and introduce the student to data acquisition and analysis of kinetic mechanisms.  One experiment involves the Energy Exchange between the Excited State of a Terbium Ion and Phenanthrolino Fe (II) and has been developed enough to formalize a procedural write-up. A second experiment is the study of the Kinetics of the Benzophenone Ketyl Radical Anion.  This reaction as well as others will be manipulated using other conditions (solvents, catalysts, concentrations) to maximize clarity for the formal laboratory procedures.
