Based on earlier designs of photoacousic spectroscopy (PAS) a highly accurate PAS instrument is constructed. The PAS apparatus is designed to operate near 770 nm, near the A-band of molecular oxygen. PAS will enable measurements at high pressures, where line mixing can be observed. The spectra produced by the instrument are sufficiently detailed to precisely observe line shapes, and may be used to find deviations from revised theories. The spectra collected will be used as reference data for remote sensing projects, such as the Orbiting Carbon Observatory, which require extremely precise line broadening parameters to achieve their desired precision.
