Loretta Jones was a pioneer in developing multimedia simulations of laboratory experiments that used well-produced videos to collect data. Later, we developed the interactive prelab modules Bridging to the Lab: Media Connecting Chemistry Concepts with Practice. Students solve real-world problems using critical thinking and decision making, and obtain feedback on choices, prior to conducting similar laboratory experiments. The lessons emphasize experimental design, reporting results, and interpreting data.Loretta Jones was also a pioneer in molecular-level visualization � in her textbooks co-authored with Peter Atkins, her multimedia research, and her leadership of the Gordon Research Conferences on Visualization in Science and Education. We integrated my VisChem molecular animations with these textbooks, and developed a 'molecular construction' module on stoichiometry, based on the VisChem Learning Design. We also collaborated on research to develop design principles for effective molecular animations. Some of the lessons learned from these projects will be demonstrated.
