Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) is a representative of polyester compounds and has been utilized in many fields. In order to improve the property of polyesters furthermore, we are now waiting an appearance of new polyester materials. There have been synthesis of a series of polyesters with chemical formulae �[-(CH2)m-OCOC6H4COO-]-, known as mGT, among which 2GT (PET)1, 3GT and 4GT are industrially important due to their properties. Our question extends to those having long methylene segments, for example, 20, 30, or even 40. This polyester will approach the so-called polyethylene -[-CH2CH2-]-. But, the presence of rigid benzene ester parts might disturb the regular packing of long methylene segments, and a sensitive balance between the flexible methylene segments and hard benzene ester parts might result in an unexpectedly interesting property.In this work, we have been trying synthesis of a series of polyesters with long methylene segments (m=9-16), and investigating their structures and the thermal behavior using a combined techniques of X-ray and computer simulation.
