Wetting properties of comb-like poly(oxyethylene) and poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) derivatives with amphiphilic side chains were investigated and stick-slip behavior was found on the surfaces of the polymers with disordered molecular structures. Although the stick-slip behavior has drawn a lot of interest in surface science because it might provide the proof that clarifies the role of the three-phase lines on the advancing contact angle, its origin is not fully understood. In this study, the origin of the phenomenon was established through amphiphilic balance of the side chain and functional group-water interaction.
