Sea food processing by-product, pacific cod (Gadus macrocephalus) skin gelatin was subjected to gastrointestinal endo-peptidase hydrolysis to obtain bioactive peptide Leu-Leu-Met-Leu-Asp-Asn-Asp-Leu-Pro-Pro (1301 KDa). The peptide was tested for its Angiotensin-I converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity and it showed a potent non-competitive ACE inhibition (IC50-35.72 �M). Further the anti-oxidative effect of the peptide was characterized by analyzing the protective effect of the peptide on reactive oxygen species mediated intracellular macromolecule damage. It was found that the peptide is a potent scavenger of intracellular ROS and thereby protecting the radical mediated damage of membrane lipids, proteins and DNA. Moreover, the peptide is capable of up-regulating the expression of inherent anti-oxidative enzymes. These finding suggest that the pacific cod skin could be effectively bio-converted to produce bioactive peptides as functional food ingredients
