The ability to design and synthesize intricate and complex materials composed of polymers is becoming increasingly important in nanotechnology. As such polymerization techniques such as Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization (ROMP) that allow for the synthesis of highly functionalized, complex polymers are proving to be invaluable to this field of material science. We have designed and synthesized a number of novel monomers and termination agents, which include groups for post-polymerization modification and a number of dye molecules. The utility of these monomers and termination agents are demonstrated by their use in the synthesis of a number of highly functional amphiphilic block-copolymers which have been subsequently used to construct nanoscale particles. The inclusion of various dye and functional groups within the nanoparticles allows for the characterization and monitoring of these systems using a number of techniques.
