Presently, supplemental treatment technologies for treating and immobilizing Hanford low-activity waste (LAW) are being evaluated. One potential LAW immobilization technology is the Fluidized Bed Steam Reforming (FBSR) granular product. The FBSR granular product is composed of insoluble sodium aluminosilicate feldspathoid minerals including sodalite, nosean, and nepheline which contain cage and ring structures that sequester Tc-99, Cs-137, and ions such as SO4, I, and F. Production of these minerals through the steam reforming process will be discussed. Also, results of various chemical durability tests will be given. Various tests that have been performed are the Product Consistancy Test (PCT), Single Pass Flow-Through (SPFT) test, the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP), and the Pressurized Unsaturated Flow (PUF) test. Solid phase characterization includes quantitative XRD, surface area measurements, and microwave digestion for chemical compositions.
