Metal-Organic frameworks are considered as high performance catalysts and adsorbents due to their modular construction and extremely high porosity.A new route towards non interpenetrated highly porous MOFs was developed based on the pto-topology by using chiral bipyridine based linkers as interconnectors (DUT-23, DUT = Dresden University of Technology). The structure is comparable to DUT-6 but uses paddle wheel units as nodes resulting in surface areas up to 4800 m2/g. DUT-23 is more stable than our recently developed MOFs based on chiral BTB-linkers with extra large pore sizes up to 3.0 nm. The substitution of chiral BDC linkers into UMCM-1 type frameworks developed in Dresden is a third and very versatile strategy. Crystal structures were determined using single crystal data from a synchrotron source.
