To model the active site of multicopper oxidases, a trinucleating framework was designed by templation of a heptadentate ligand around yttrium. The generated complex orients three sets of two or three nitrogen donors for binding of copper(I) centers. Reaction with dioxygen at low temperatures generates a bis(�-oxo)tricopper complex based on spectroscopic analysis. Characterization and reactivity studies related to dioxygen activation at tricopper cores will be discussed.
