This presentation will compare and contrast the process of transforming classroom instruction from a passive (lecture) mode to a student-centered (activity-based instruction) approach at a Research I institution in the USA and a specialized national university in Spain. The processes, challenges, and results will be highlighted to include aspects of the bottom-up (faculty generated), top-down (administrative mandate), and mixed approach for institutionalizing instructional changes.
