The high school students and teachers were involved in research with interests to encourage them to choose a science, math, or engineering technology (STEM) discipline. For this we did a twofold program: (i) research in synthesis and characterizations of poly(3,5-dimethyl phenyl acrylate) (35PDMPA), and (ii) broaden overview of research in digital materials and parts manufacturing. In order to enhance the research interests and capabilities of the high school science teachers as well to motivate the high school student in pursuing a STEM disciplines in one hand we focused on the viscosity characterizations of 35PMDMA in toluene at 40�C. The statics end-to-end dimensions of the polymer, and polymer-solvent interaction parameter bases on two parameters relationships such as Mark-Houwink-Sakurada, Stockmayer-Fixman, and simplified Yamakawa theory by Bohdaneck?y? were studied. On the engineering and manufacturing side the high school students and teachers were concentrated on digital manufacturing focused to enhance the material properties by digital technology. Also, the participants worked on composite manufacturing using preprep carbon-carbon microfibers comparing the strength of the manufactured composite by the number of carbon nanofiber layers and the orientation of the nanofibers. The two weeks summer training brought new insight to both students and teachers.
