Transition-metal based nanoparticles have been prepared at room temperature and characterized for the purpose of environmental applications. These nanomaterials are prepared by a solvothermal method using various transition metals and para disubstituted aromatic ligands such as aminophenol, hydroquinone, phenylenediamine, and aminothiophenol. These nanomaterials are being studied to determine if they could be further reduced by sodium borohydride (NaBH4). Particle shape, size and size distribution are studied using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD).
