The bold goal of SciGirls is to change how millions of girls think about science, technology, engineering, and math - a.k.a. STEM. Research shows that some girls begin to lose interest (and confidence in their abilities) in math and science in middle school. SciGirls engages girls, ages 8 to 13, helping them through these challenging tween years to arrive in high school with a positive attitude toward STEM and STEM careers. At the core is our Emmy-award winning PBS Kids television series that features middle school girls modeling authentic approaches to inquiry-based science and engineering projects. Our social networking website and various nationwide outreach initiatives emphasize current research on strategies, the SciGirls Seven, proven to increase girls' engagement in STEM. We will share practical tips to implement these strategies with any STEM curriculum because we know that all learners benefit from a gender equitable approach to STEM.
