Aromatic oligoamides is a group of foldamers which has received an ever increasing interest during the last two decades. Herein, the development of efficient and versatile protocols for iterative submonomer synthesis of arylopeptoids (oligomeric N-substituted aminomethyl benzamides) both in solution and on solid-phase is presented.The arylopeptoids were studied by NMR and while most side chains gave rise to cis/trans isomerism, the tert-butyl and phenyl side chains allowed for complete control over the amide conformation (100% cis and 100% trans, respectively).
