This paper uses a thermodynamic analysis procedure to investigate the differences between light and heavy crude oils with different distillation processes including pre-fractionation columns or pre-flash drums. On the basis of the optimum distillation schemes selected in previous works, further comparison of energy and exergy efficiency between the two kinds of oils is consequently conducted and detailed analyses in every distillation unit are carried on in this work. The result influence factors of selecting the optimum process between light and heavy crude may benefit the optimization distillation unit selections among different oils.
