Genotoxicity screening by the classic Amestest and in vitro Comet assay of concentrated MP UV/H2O2 treated water samples showed no response, similar to results on UV disinfected water.  In vivo genotoxicity testing in Eastern Mudminnow fish by Sister Chromatide Exchange and Comet assay on gill cell tissue, showed a response in the Comet assay after MP UV/H2O2 treatment, while the Ames II test on concentrated samples showed an increasing response with increasing availability of low wavelength UV light.  Ames II testing of MP UV/H2O2 treated reconstituted water showed a response only when nitrate was added to natural organic matter, showing the influence of nitrate photolysis.  A deficit in the inorganic nitrogen balance was found, suggesting N-DBP formation by nitrogen incorporation in the organic water matrix.  Using phenol as a model compound for the organic water matrix, nitrated aromatics were identified by UPLC after MP UV/H2O2 treatment.
