A number of studies have been conducted concerning compositional modifications of high cobalt content perovskites for cathode and protective doped ceria layer in an anode supported tubular solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Emphasis was placed on achieving enhanced low temperature (700�750�C) performance. Investigations involved catalytic properties of cathode material, electrochemical analysis of SOFC cells, surface properties of perovskite-type materials, and attempts to optimize the ceria barrier layer between the cathode and electrolyte. Above factors provide a better understanding of this high cobalt content cathode system and a basis of significant power enhancements in low temperatures.
