Amphiphilic diblock copolymers have been used to prepared self-assembled micelles for drug delivery. Protein adsorption onto these micelles reduces their blood circulation time. This poster will present the synthesis of PEG-b-PCL diblock copolymers in which the architecture of the PEG block is linear vs. cyclic. These diblock copolymers are synthesized starting with difunctional and monofunctional PEG to produce cyclic and linear benzyl alcohol-terminated PEG macroinitiators, respectively. These macroinitiators are then used for the ring-opening polymerization of e-caprolactone using stannous octoate as the catalyst.
