Recently, graft copolymers are attracting interest due to a number of superior properties. It has been observed that graft polymer can self assemble into well-organized polygonal nanoparticles with an internal lamellar-like morphology. Furthermore, graft copolymers show extremely low CMC values and higher loading capacity of anticancer drugs compared to linear block copolymers of the same constituents. This report describes the synthesis of graft block copolymers called poly(glycerol adipate)-g-poly(e-caprolactone-b-ethylene oxide) (PGA-g-(PCL-b-PEO)). Both PGA and PCL are not water soluble but biodegradable polymers whereas PEO is hydrophilic and known as a biocompatible polymer. The PGA backbone was enzymatically polymerized yielding linear polyesters having a pendant hydroxyl group for each repeat unite. PGA is then hydrophobically modified using caprolactone applying the �grafting from� strategy. The resulting polymer is hydrophilically modified using poly(ethylene oxide) by �grafting to� strategy. The crystallization behavior is investigated using differential scanning calorimetry.
