In recent years polymers which are able to undergo phase separation in the nanometer scale have attracted increasing interest due to applications in nanomedicine, photonics and nanoelectronics. Thus, block copolymers and dendrimers are widely studied due to their phase separation in bulk and solvents. Also comb-like polymers show phase separation and form lamellar morphologies if the side-chains are completely flexible. Then, a separation of side-chains from the polymer backbone is possible, depending of crafting density, number of CH2-groups, and maybe unsaturated moieties in the side chains. The influence of unsaturated moieties on the phase behavior of small molecules like monoolein has already been discussed. To further investigate the behavior of such comb like polymers poly(glycerol adipate) has been synthesized as the polymer backbone followed by esterification of the OH-groups with oleoyl chloride. Synthesis and structure formation of these polymers as a function of the degree of esterification are discussed.
