Polymer materials have multiple uses for national security applications, from structural components in weapon systems to energy storage to sensing platforms. The physical, chemical properties and hence the performance of these materials are governed by chemical and structural properties over many length and time scales. At LLNL we are utilizing new experimental and modeling methods to gain increased understanding of the influence of network structure of elastomeric materials and multifunctional composites. This insight is then being used to create multifunctional materials for a broad range of applications. This presentation will present a highlight of federally funded polymer research ongoing at LLNL.
