Nanoelectrode arrays comprised of multi-layered graphene petal nanosheets and single-walled carbon nanotubes coupled with platinum nanoparticles are developed from a metallized silicon wafer to monitor glucose concentrations via the enzyme glucose oxidase. The carbon-based nanomaterials are grown directly onto the biosensor surface through microwave plasma chemical vapor deposition while platinum nanospheres are electrodeposited.  A computational, reaction-diffusion model is employed to simulate the biosensor reaction-diffusion kinetics and to dictate the spatial arrangement of the Pt nanoparticles electrodeposited onto the biosensor surface.  The glucose sensitivity, linear sensing range, and detection limit are optimized by controlling the size and density of the Pt nanoparticle constituents�opening the door for new non-invasive or minimally invasive glucose sensing paradigms.  We present these experimental and computational results with hopes that they will serve as a foundation for controlling electrochemical biosensor performance and function as a design guideline for nanostructured amperometric biosensors.
