Cytochrome P450 2A6 (CYP2A6) is involved in the metabolism of nicotine, the activation of carcinogenic nitrosamines, and the clearance of drugs such as letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor.  The impact of dietary constituents and other xenobiotics on CYP2A6 activity is therefore of interest.  The present study seeks to investigate and characterize the ability of a variety of common dietary compounds, specifically (R)- and (S)-carvone and cinnamyl aldehyde, to act as modulators of CYP2A6 activity. IC50 values of the three compounds have been determined.  Results of kinetic and biophysical studies of these compounds with a recombinant CYP2A6 will also be presented.
