The use of organic photochromic compounds has become of increasing interest due to their unique functionalities upon exposure to external stimuli.  In this work, the photochromism and application of specifically angled, conjugated spirooxazine dimers are discussed.  Dimers were coupled onto varying polymeric substrates and studied under continuous UV irradiation in solvents of different polarity.  Results show the specific effects of the polymer chain on their photochromic properties and relaxation kinetics.  Photochromism of these new materials showed little dependency on solvent polarity and stable cyclability.  Binding affinity towards palladium catalyst demonstrates potential for selective recognition.
