There have been many calls for improving safety instruction in undergraduate and graduate chemistry programs.  With sympathy and enthusiasm for such a change, the culture and circumstances of college-level chemistry instruction will be examined with the intent of describing conditions which can lead to better education about chemical health and safety.  No magic bullets are promised, but a path towards �getting better� will be proposed.
