With limited resources, a large inventory of hazardous chemicals, and the risk of serious injury always weighing on the mind of safety professionals, UC San Diego has found an innovative approach to managing the risk associated with high hazard chemicals. Initiated by the campus faculty safety committee, in collaboration with the campus safety department, a web based application (i.e., Chemical Hazard Use Authorization) will provide researchers an essential new tool in managing risk through the use of committee approved and agent specific Hazard Control Plans. This new tool will put an emphasis on where it is needed most � where the greatest risk resides.
